About Dorset....
Dorset Calisthenics College was established in 1957. It's first coach was Miss Eral Goullet and in the following years several coaches held this position.
In 1974, Mrs June Tyrer handed the college over to Mrs Anne Johnson. Anne has been the Principal of Dorset for 36 years.
Classes have been held in many venues around Boronia but for over 10 years we have used two in Dorset Road - The Boronia Youth Hall and St Pauls Church Hall.
Mrs Trish McLeod, who has been with Dorset since its inception, handles all financial matters. Our aim is to provide quality Calisthenics at an affordable price.
Part of Calisthenics is the enjoyment of wearing costumes on stage. Our costume warehouse enables us to eliminate sewing almost completely.
At Dorset we want parents, pupils and coaches to enjoy all aspects of Calisthenics.
Fun and Fitness is the motto!
Anne Johnson
Anne began her Calisthenics life at St Thomas' Church Hall in Moonee Ponds when she was seven years old. Her teacher was Miss Vera Hopton (B.E.M.) The following year she joined Clifton Calisthenics College, also taught by Miss Hopton. Anne remained at Clifton for 22 years.
As well as team work, Anne competed in the 'Graceful Girl' section at Royal South Street Eisteddfod gaining an Honorable Mention and a 3rd placing.
While still a competitor at Clifton College, Anne began her coaching career with Aberfeldie Calisthenics Club. Still a Clifton pupil, she also began her adjudicating career at the Regent Competitions. Anne adjudicated for over 15 years. Her appointments included two years as the adjudicator at Royal South Street and the South Australian State Competitions.
At the end of 1973 Anne married and moved to Boronia. She became principal of Dorset Calisthenics College, a position she still holds.
Anne is on the Calisthenics Victoria and the Victorian Calisthenics Coaches Association committees. She is a life member of the V.C.C.A. and in 2006 was awarded 'Coach of the Year'.
Trish McLeod
Trish has been with Dorset Calisthenics College for over 50 years. She started as a pupil in the younger sections and continued through to the Seniors section. After retiring as a pupil, Trish continued her interest in Dorset Calisthenics College by helping in as many ways as she could.
Eventually, Trish became the official Treasurer. She is in charge of pupil registrations, competition entries/payments, hiring venues, license permits, organizing accommodation and camps, and supervising the costume warehouse. Trish also liaises with coaches and distributed competition time-tables. Although Trish is a working lady, she not only does all of the above but assists with make-up and operating stage properties.
As well as being Dorset Calisthenics College administrator, Trish co-operates with other Calisthenic clubs in the area regarding costume and props exchanges. She is Dorset Calisthenics College's delegate to Calisthenics Victoria Inc. and represents all clubs as the State Treasurer.
Trish is a recipient of the 2009 Victoria Day Award and is a life member of Dorset Calisthenics College.
